Day 7

“In the meantime, back at the ranch…” Tonto

Are you experiencing an extremely slow, painful and protracted death doing something you no longer enjoy? Or have you been pushed out of one setting and are desperately seeking to re-enter a similar setting and replicate the same scenario that had you feeling trapped and unfulfilled in the first place?

You know that something is missing, and you also know that unless you find that missing something you will continue to feel even more alienated from yourself and your inspiration. You are about to hit the proverbial wall and you are feeling desperate to find a way forward.

Is it time to shed that old skin and move forward to embrace what inspired you in the first place?

Do you need to be liberated?

This last spring I had the opportunity to attend an interfaith Freedom Seder dinner at the Jewish Community Center here in Tucson, to commemorate the story of the liberation of the ancient Jews from slavery in Egypt. Moses had made his admonishment to pharaoh of “Let my people go”, but as we all know that struggle for freedom is not limited to any particular tribe or race. It is what we all struggle with, and so in these times of dislocation and transition we all can become inspired again by the Moses story of liberation.

How could you go about extricating yourself from those settings and scenarios that are no longer serving you and liberate yourself ?

Here is an excerpt from my Transition Process to Your Future Self. Phase 10: Liberation.

Liberation: The point at which you have effectively extricated yourself from the structures, settings, patterns and behaviors of the past that no longer serve you. By planting a stake in the ground, you lay claim to a future self that is in alignment with what is really important and inspiring to you. The letting go process required to get to this point is not a one time event. You have drawn a line in the sand knowing that you have reached this new place of no turning back. The letting go process required to get to this point is not a one time event, and you will continue letting go of one layer at a time, but only when you are ready and receptive for moving up to another step. This whole process, however, can sometimes be initiated with an event that acts a catalyst for setting things into motion, such as a health related crisis, loss of a job or any of the other situations that can dramatically alter the status quo and thus create a more fertile environment for exploration of your true self… of course there’s always the good old lightning bolt.

Remember that I warned you that I would resort to digressions…

I’m reminded me of my own efforts at liberating myself and my sense of longing for an alternative life that inspired me once again. It brought back all of the hand wringing and the false starts that were proceeded by my actually being able to extricate myself from a status quo; what was a familiar and financially secure yet eventually a deadly scenario… and that turned out to not be a figure of speech.

I got a little extra “nudge” along the way that finally caught my attention. My catalyst was a double by-pass in combination with 9/11 that proved to be the “big stick” that finally got things moving for me. Not that I’m advocating this as a strategy, but I didn’t know then what I know now, that I actually could have hired a guide that worked along side of me to explore options that might have been less traumatic.

I always did believe in doing things up big, but really didn’t have that in mind for my ‘Plan B’. It definitely helped to get things unstuck however, kind of like a stick of dynamite would. A really messy way to go about creating change, that I wouldn’t recommend. This is how I begin my process of rediscovery, and while it did get things jump started some how, I still had no idea as to what my next steps should be or where to go from there. Things of course did not move forward in a nice neat line, but from this vantage point several years later I can now see that I didn’t need to get knocked off my horse in quite that way… that if I had had the benefit of a guide, someone that would have been there to point out that there is another way to go about doing this without all the drama and the pain, that sure would have saved me a whole lot of time and anguish, both of the physical and emotional variety.

Which leads me back to why I am here. Trust me when I say I’ve been there and that shared experience gives me great empathy for where you are at. I can and have felt what you feel now. My having been there and back again helps me to help you to create a softer landing than my own. I’m here to give you hope in that there is an alternative to what you are living right now, and that I’m here to show you that it’s possible to create a life that inspires you.

The good news is you can get started right now! The first step to closing the gap between where you are at now and where want to be is in developing a mindset that is receptive to living a life inspired by your passions. Let me know by opting in and I can send you my “5 step process for Changing your Mindset.”

Until then, take some time to ruminate on what exactly would your own personal liberation mean to you. What shape might it take? What does it feel like? Take a brief moment to simply indulge yourself and go there to that place… and fill us in on the details.
